Here’s what the Clients Say

We are celebrating our First Anniversary in our new home. Designed by Michael Borden from scratch strictly as per Vastu Shastra and custom build according to ancient science of Vastu. It was labor of love. Almost 9000 square feet but still feels cozy. We can now tell the distinct effect of Vastu rules. You can feel the tangible positive vibrations. So far it is been abode of bliss and success. Looking forward to years of joy with our friends and family.

Michael Borden was excellent for our renovation project. His design sense represents a great combination of western and eastern influences.

He was magnificent in working with our contractor. We were also blessed with an excellent contractor who had no experience with vaastu architecture.

Michael¹s pricing/charges were less expensive than we had expected to pay. He does things on a timely basis. He is not an ideologue about vaastu but is a true believer and adapts well with his clients¹ needs and interests.

Our project was a complete renovation along with rectification and addition of an existing 2,000-square foot, house built in 1939. It faced east in an almost perfect match up with the compass points. The new house is about 4,700 square feet.

The house was faux Georgian colonial. My wife and I like Arts and Crafts. Michael was able to make all this work in subtle and wonderful ways.

Michael helped us create our dream house in every way. Over the course of the project he worked extensively with our contractor. They brainstormed many solutions to the kinds of problems that always surface in a project this large.

This was the biggest project we had ever done. We have worked with architects before, and Michael is the best.

Michael also gave helpful ideas in terms of landscaping and more.

One of the great things Michael did was blend the existing house with the new house: through window choices, architectural details, and door choices, among other things.

The word I always use to describe about our project is proportionality. That is what vaastu encourages and enlivens. Michael has a strong command of this.      —H.B., Missouri, 4/07

Having Michael Borden, in Iowa, design our house in Maryland, turned out to be much easier than such a distance might suggest. At an early stage he was inspired with a suitable overall concept consistent with Vaastu, with our needs, and with the terrain, and was always swift and flexible about modifying it during the consultation process. In our case, his design will be transformed by other engineers into a customized modular construction. The builder has remarked on the beauty of the design.      —R.D. & L.D., Maryland, 5/06

Right from the start, Michael was an absolute pleasure to work with. He took his time explaining S-V principles and worked patiently with us to incorporate them into our building design. His depth of knowledge and flexibility in understanding our limitations was comforting, to say the least. Even though he was half way around the world, he was always prompt in answering our questions.. Frankly, we couldn’t have pulled this project off without Michael being an integral part of our team.      —B., 2/06

Working with Michael was a real joy. He took our idea of an over sized garage with offices and yoga space and transformed it into a truly remarkable building. So far our building has only been framed – it’s almost “dried in” and we love it more and more with each passing day. We walk upstairs and we feel like we are in a sacred place. The lines of the ceiling with the cupola and dormers is stunning. Being in Kauai our views are spectacular, but it is much more than that – the building just feels and looks great. Michael has the sensitivity of an artist along with practicality, a lively sense of humor and good communication. A winning combination!      —L.R., 11/05

From the very first meeting to discuss various vastu approaches to rectifying and renovating our home, to the final walk-around when construction was completed, Michael’s assistance and input was simply wonderful. His depth of Vastu knowledge, refined architectural aesthetic, common sense approach to design and construction decisions, recomendations for contractors, and his ability to recognize and respond to our needs (including differing ones between my wife’s and mine), all blended to create an extremely successful and delightful project.

There is no question that within this new structure, our physical and spiritual comfort has increased. Thank you Michael!      —B. R.

Working with Michael was a great pleasure for us. What impresses me most about Michael is his communication. From day one he started communicating with us about our project. Secondly he has through knowledge Vastu Shastra. I learned a lot from him regarding Vastu. He is honest and hardworking. Although he was in India for SV research, he did not stop working on my project and kept on communicating with us as he did in our town. Thanks Michael for designing my dream house.      —A. K.

I recently heard about Vaastu through a call from an investor who stressed the need to incorporate Vaastu principles into the design for a business development. I was given Michael’s number and thus began my introduction to Vaastu. While our planning had already been completed and had passed through the town review process, Michael worked with me to make sure that I could adapt as much of the Vaastu design principles into our existing design as possible; fortunately, the town planning board was amenable to our proposed changes. I now have a business development under construction that reflects our growing interest in working with these universal principles and enhances our ability to bring integrity and abundance into our daily lives.

For our next project we will begin the planning process with Vaastu design. Thanks for your help.      —T. L.

You can only be as enlightened as the purity of the spirit of your house lets you be.

Moving into our Vastu house was one of the biggest leaps forward in consciousness that I have ever taken. The only thing I can compare it to is when I received the Flying Technique. When we moved into our Vastu house, I felt like I was in a different country. Of course the house was new and everything was wonderful, but the feeling was beyond just that. It felt like my orientation in the world was different.      —M. L.

Another revelation about Vastu came when the fence was put up around the house. I realized why in my native country, Latvia, in the old folk songs, the expressions “in our home” and “in our fence” are used synonymously. The addition of the fence really made our home feel finished and protected.      —M. L.

We love the house, love living here and especially love meditating here. We have had very positive reactions from our new neighbors, our builders and everyone visiting. Working with you was a real pleasure from start to finish. We truly appreciated your very prompt and complete responses to all of our issues, your willingness to be flexible and the great house you and Charlie Ficke designed. Please feel free to direct anyone to us who have questions about working with you.      —B.L & M. L.

I discovered Michael Borden after an astrological reading revealed that I “should be learning how to create sacred space”. I didn’t know exactly what that meant at the time, but a deeper part of me understood. After finding Michael’s website, and purchasing his training DVDs, I explained to him our project of building a retreat center in Costa Rica and that we needed to bring in the Vastu principles. Working with him purely over the phone and via the internet and email, Michael created our Vastu Purusha mandala based on our birth information and Nakshatras and formulated all the floor-plans for our project based on his Ayadi calculations. Michael not only came to the project with his professional expertise, but also with sensitivity and compassion for our unique and specific needs. He worked quickly with sensitivity to our budget and was always there to answer questions and to help us work around obstacles. Michael is not simply an architect, but an intuitive guide who will walk with you along your path to help you create your own sacred space.”

—Karen Heil, Healing Therapies and co-owner of Ahki – A Sacred Space for Retreats in Costa Rica.

Michael Borden got a beautiful small model home built of wood to be a”proxy’ for the actual big house.Since then there is definately more peace in house and in me.

The house is finally up! We are very happy with the results –thank you for all your help and expertise.      —2009

Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati

A Short Biography

Born in the year 1927, at Pillayarpatti, a village near Karaikudi, Tamilnadu, Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati comes from an illustrious family of temple architects and sculptors. His family lineage stretches back over one hundred decades including the sthapatis who created the great Brihadeeswara Temple of Tanjore, the treasure house of Indian art and architecture. Son of Sri Vaidyanatha Sthapati, a renowned sculptor and Sanskrit scholar, he has made remarkable contributions to the field of art and architecture.

As the Doyen of Indian Vaastu Shastra (recently given the title of “Shilpi Guru” by the President of India) he has been doing research in the field of Vaastu Science and Technology for the past 50 years. A graduate in Mathematics and Sanskrit, Sthapati is propagating this supreme science in India and abroad. He is solely responsible for the resurrection of the works of the Great Brahmarishi Mayan, who was the progenitor of this Indian science and technology and the founder of this rich civilization and culture.

As the Principal of the Government College of Architecture and Sculpture (the only institute of this kind in the world) at Mamallapuram, near Chennai, for 27 years, Sthapati worked hard to restore and elevate the status of the sacred art and architecture by affiliating courses to the University of Madras and offering degree courses. This brought academic status to the age-old tradition of learning and also initiated many young people into this traditional technology.

After retirement from government service, he established Vaastu Vedic Trust and Vaastu Vedic Research Foundation aimed at research, development and globalization of Vaastu Shastra. He is also the head of the professional guild named V. Ganapati Sthapati & Associates. This group of talented designers, engineers and craftsmen work together to create Vaastu inspired temples and other buildings in India and abroad. The palatial buildings of library and administrative block for Tamil University of Tanjore and the Muthiah Mandram in Madurai speak of his capacity for designing and executing works of stupendous nature. Of particular interest is his monumental vaastu sculpture/building of Thiruvalluvar at the southern tip of India at Kanya Kumari measuring 133 feet in elevation: a stone statue of liberty for India. This colossal marvel has taken him to the pinnacle of his life’s achievement as a traditional architect and builder and commendations and awards have reached him from around the world for this achievement: a poetic image that will be with us for thousands of years.

He has authored a number of books on the science and technology of Vastu Shastra and has conducted numerous seminars with professionals in a generous effort to make this knowledge available to the world. He has established the International Institute of Mayonic Science and Technology, which conducts workshops and discourses all over the world.

Sthapati holds the post of the Professor and the Head of the Department of Sthapatya Veda in the World University of Traditional Indian Science, Technology and Culture in Chennai.

Some of the notable books he has authored include: Iconometry, Temples of Space Science, The Building Architecture of Sthapatya Veda, and Commentary on Mayan’s Aintiram.

Sthapati has earned a number of titles and awards including an Honorary Fellowship by the Indian Institute of Architects, the National award for Master Craftsmanship by the President of India, the title of “Shilpi Guru of India” also by the President and a Doctorate Degree conferred by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic University.

He has worked and researched the USA, U.K., Australia, France, Fiji, Germany, Holland, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico, Guatemala and Peru.

This pulsating and vibrant researcher, sculptor, architect, philosopher and scientist has given forth many startling research discoveries on the intricacies of the traditional art and architecture of India and is quite optimistic that one day Vaastu science will be a major influence in the world. He has identified the theories of the origin of the Universe and its life forms through his research on the works of Mayan scaling height far beyond the mundane world of modern science and technology.

It is with deep gratitude that I introduce you to this great and generous man.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote Vaastu Shastra and educate designers, architects, builders and homeowners of the potential of a more comfortable, happy and successful life lived in harmony through the principles of Vastu Shastra.

Michael Borden’s largest obstacle to learning this ancient science lay in finding a way to learn about it. When he began his search he quickly realized that the only reputable source of knowledge lay in going to India and studying there with a master. He studied the science of Vastu Architecture in India with Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati, one of India’s most renowned temple architects, and has built structures according to these principles. With Dr. Sthapati’s guidance, he has structured an online seminar to make this knowledge easily available to all.

Through our online store we’ll endeavor to provide the very best products to the professional, the student, and the homeowner.

S. Santhana Krishnan Sthapati

StapatiEldest son of Shilparatnam. Sri. S. Shanmugam Sthapati, Sthapati Santhana Krishnan follows the footsteps of his father and continues to be a Temple Architect. Sri. S. Shanmugam Sthapati is a well experienced Temple architect who has been with Dr. Ganapati Sthapati since the age of six. He was the chief executive sthapati for Dr. Sthapati’s prestigious projects Saint Thiruvalluvar statue, 133’0 ht. granite stone structure that withstood the Tsunamic waves in 2004, Kanyakumari and Sanmarga Iraivan Temple, Kauai, USA. He has constructed number of Temples in India and abroad.

StapatiSthapati Santhana Krishnan completed his Bachelor’s degree in Temple Architecture from The college of Architecture and Sculpture, Mamallapuram in the year 1998 after which his interests deepened in exploring the intricate science of Sthapatya Veda. For which he studied M.A., M.Phil in Sanskrit Language from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Chennai. Dr. Sthapati appointed him in his office while he was in college, which helped Santhana Krishnan gain practical experience at an early stage. Being associated with Shilpguru Dr.V.Ganapati Sthapati, Santhana Krishnan’s research activities in the ancient Texts of Ainthiram and Pranava Vedam widened.

He began to assist Dr. Sthapati in his research works and has presented papers related to Ainthiram. Evidences of information from MAYAN’s Ainthiram and Pranava Vedam were explored and identified in Tholkaapiyar’s Tholkappiyam, Thirumoolar’s Thirumandiram and Ramalinga Adigalaar’s Thiruvarutpa by Sthapati Santhana Krishnan, which gained appreciation among scholars. His search for more knowledge on Mayonic science continues. His research works include the studies of 108 Upanishads wherein he has found references relevant to Vastu shastra. He is presently translating Mayan’s Pranava Veda from Tamil to English. He has assisted Dr. Sthapati in conducting Vastu classes for International Institute of Mayonic Science and Technology, Chennai and American University of Mayonic Science and Technology, USA and is a Faculty for AUM. He is also a good speaker and has delivered speeches in number of conferences along with Dr. Sthapati.

StapatiSthapati Santhana Krishnan’s contribution to the Mayonic architecture under the guidance of Dr. Sthapati is awe inspiring. His primary focus is on Stone architecture and his first field experience began in the stone marking of 10 elephants for the illustrious project of Dr. Sthapati – SainSaint Thiruvalluvar Statue which stands in the midst of sea in Kanyakumari. He worked extensively on this project and other large temples in India and Sri Lanka. His one of the major projects is the Gurunathar Temple at Reddiapatti, south of Tamilnadu which is again a stone temple renovation project that was primarily constructed in cement and steel by Dr.V.Ganapati Sthapati. After seven years of intense work, this temple was consecrated in April 2007. This project has awarded the title of Sirpa Kalai Arasan for Sthapati Santhana Krishnan for his tremendous contribution in the making of this massive temple in stone. Sthapati. Out of his love for Mayonic Science, Sthapati Santhana Krishnan prefers to call himself as Sthapati Daasan as Kaalidaasan and Bharatidaasan

StapatiKrithika Karuppiah

A contemporary architect whose interest in the Traditional Indian architecture developed gradually during her periodical visits with Dr.V.Ganapati Sthapati, while receiving the guidance for her final year thesis project – Vedic Village (a topic that focused upon the application of Traditional Sthapatya Vedic principles in designing of buildings that will be suitable for today’s life style). After completion of Bachelor’s Degree of Architecture from Hindustan College of Engineering Madras University in the academic year 1999, Ms. Krithika decided to learn more on Sthapatya Veda and joined as an Architect in Dr. Sthapati’s organization. She has designed a number of Vaastu buildings like residences, schools, hospitals, factories, Religious and Monumental buildings, etc. under the tutelage of Dr. Sthapati for 9 years. By blending traditional vaastu grammar with modern space concepts, Krithika has been successful in creating magnificent structures that are spiritually and physically appeasing. Her first residential project in Chennai, Mr. Santhanam’s residence was designed as a pure Vaastu building. This project brought her into limelight when Dr. Sthapati, the client and herself were interviewed by the Discovery Channel team and telecast on Asian Enigma series.

During her career as a Sthapatya Vedic architect in Trinidad & Tobago, she along with her husband has designed remarkable projects thereby exposing Trinidadians to this wonderful Science of Sthapatya Veda. Her vaastu consultation services are spread worldwide.
